Indian consulate comes to rescue of Indian woman
Dubai, Feb 22 (IANS) The Indian consulate here has rescued an Indian woman who was trapped in a human trafficking and prostitution racket.
Soon after her arrival in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last week on an employment visa, the woman found that she was trapped in a prostitution racket and managed to escape from the clutches of her sponsor.
The woman, who has not been identified, managed to contact the Indian authorities in Dubai and the Indian consulate gave her shelter.
It is not clear how the Indian woman got involved in the racket.
Indian Consul General Venu Rajamony took up the issue with Ajman authorities and made a strong plea to take urgent action against the persons involved, stated a press release by the consulate.
The Indian consulate has also written to the authorities in Kerala to initiate action against persons responsible for sending the woman to the UAE. She will be sent back to India on the earliest available flight, the release added.
