Material prosperity no guarantee to happiness: Makhmoor Sayeedi

New Delhi, Feb 22 (Indianmuslims.info) Renowned Urdu poet Makhmoor Sayeedi, who was recently conferred with Sahitya Akademy Award for his distinguished contribution to the Urdu language, opined that material prosperity does not necessarily bring happiness in life.

He was addressing a gathering organised to felicitate the awardees of Sahitya Akademy Awards 2006 on the third day of Annual Literary Fair here Wednesday.

“According to the Industrial Revolution, materialism does bring with it the message of a happy life. Although wherever this premise has come true, the circumstances have created complexities as a result of imbalance between material progress on one hand and moral and spiritual advancement on the other, he remarked.

“The industrially developed countries have produced worst examples of political and economic exploitation, as a result of which different kinds of mental, spiritual and social ills have afflicted the modern man and human society is suffering despite facilities of sorts, he added.

A number of writers, poets and scholars of the various languages participated in the programme.
