Hello,
I am in graduate school at Widener University (Chester, PA) and am a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology. I am doing my dissertation on perceptions of the 2002 Gujarati riots. I am looking to interview individuals who identify themselves as Muslim (over the age of 18) who were in Gujarat at any time from February 27-May 1, 2002. Participants will be asked questions from an interview protocol that I devised after doing a thorough literature review. The study will add to the sparse literature on how minorities, particularly South Asians, process trauma. Interviews take roughly 1-1.5 hours. Location is determined by the participants' preference (New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washinton D.C. area). All participants will be paid $20. hi!! i juast chanced upon this site , which seems quite interesting and indeed gives a different perspective of wht is happening around. But i do feel that(you are free to discard it) we should have a space where this exclusivity for only 'indian muslims' is not there. Don't you think this medium of space can be used to clear the doubts over this whole issue of treating the muslims as 'Other' . We need a foum to discuss the issues and we will love to make an effort to understand each other . We can't continue this unfortunate 'legacy' of the history. we need a new beginning (i know it sounds utopian!!) bt atleast we can try.
I do feel that there is a need for intrspection in what is happening in the community and some where somthing has gone wrong.

I am a "Hindu" from New Delhi who lives in the US. I want to commend your work. I have recently been researching Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and everything I have read about him is phenomenal. In a world that is going mad and polarizing rather quickly, we need more voices that show us our humanity and our unity in diversity. May India and Islam continue to be one and the same for ages to come. May we live up to the highest ideas and ideals embodied in our respective religions. It is not an easy road that we are on. People do not know even their own selves, but are ready to fight for others' ideas that they think they understand. Alas, we are a primitive species. My fear is that radical voices on all sides are itching for a fight and that we are heading towards a time of darkness. I request all people of all faiths to pray for peace and to practice our ideas and religions without hurting others.
May we have the wisdom to not spoil the heaven that is already here!

It's a very good effort. There was certainly a need for something like this. Only thing is sometimes ads are appearing on top on content so I am unable to read full articles.

We are , thus,precluded from falling to the level of 'reactionaries', nor leapfrog to the level of 'extremists' or 'terrorists'!
Unlike the prophets of yore , raised by God from different people, on different times , for differen purposes, our Prophet(MPH)was sent to the peoples of the universe till the doomsday!
He has been sent as " mercy to peoples of the universe"!And the final revelation has annulled all previous editions and has been atteseted as the most authentic reminder not only for muslims,
but also for the universe!
Further, the last Prophet is the finest role model for leading a righteous life!
Lastly, we donot accept those who resort to terrorism as "Muslims'
nor approve their dastardly attacks as "Jihad"!
The Great Jihad (Jihade Kabeer) consits in not fighting but in winning the adversaries to the way of our Lord with wisdom and beautiful arguments from the holy Quran!(Holy Quran 25 :52 & 16 : 125)

This is not exactly a reply, though to a substantial extent it is one. I write it as my initial impression on visiting this website - INDIAN MUSLIMS - after being led to it when looking for Google news of January 11, 08. The website IS indeed different, as said by some of its readers, in that I could not see any one-sided matter to convey any view of its being a pro-Islamist (pro-Islam, it can be, but not pro-Islamist as the terms are normally understood). It is especially nice to know that the driving spirit behind the website's objectives is its recognition that Islam does not contradict but supports the spirit of our Indian-ness. It is general knowledge that Muslims of India are blood brethren of the other sons and daughters of India. Apart from this, I wish this website all the very best to carry on with great work inspired by wholesome ideals and principles [which there is no need to elaborate here!]. I would also like to congratulate its editors and staff and other writers warmly on their informative and educative work to fulfill the website's laudable objectives. Why do the indian so called secular leaders debate lot on the miority status of the muslims? Does this mean that they should be never allowed to be part of main stream of nationalism.
I think the most prefered place for any muslim in the world would be India, as they can indulge them self in anti social & anti natioanl activities and are supported by our so called legislators who wish to keep the community always away from nation's main strem just for the sake of votes.
When muslim league demanded and got the separate state based on islamism, where comes the question of any community becoming minority.
I think few muslim leaders along with some of our so called secular leaders are exploiting the whole community in india and religion has become more pripority than nationality.
God only can save this country by hopeless leaders.
My suggetion to you is that please spread the message of nationality first than community to especially indian Muslims.

INDIA - A Different kind of Country

I just came across your website and took a very brief glance at it. But it seems you have embarked on a very necessary venture.
INDIA includes all its brothers and sisters from all religions. Muslims are a HUGE and indispensable part of India, Indian History, Indian culture, Indian military, Indian literature, Indian intelligentia and all things Indian.
Nowhere in the world are multiple cultures so inseparably intertwined.
In Bengal, from where I hail, Rabindranath Tagore, Kabi Nazrul and Michael Madhusudan are inseparably a part of our heritage, yet they came from three different religions.
Just as I can never cease to be an Indian, regardless of legislation, war or strife, Muslims will always be a very vital and necesary part of ""who we are"" and ""who I am"".
So let us not be deterred or distracted by communalism and divisive politics. Let us not be overwhelmed by darkness. Let us, instead, light a candle in each of our personal lives and sing the glory of a unique country of muslims, hindus, christians and every other world religion. We are all Indians. And God Bless Indians.
